The Symbolism of The Celtic Tree of Life
In the Celtic tradition, the complex “over/under” knotwork found in their art symbolizes the eternal and never-ending life force. In this belief system, everything is animated with spirit, including trees, plants, rocks, water, sky, animals and humans alike. The moon in this piece represents how the Celts honoured the wisdom and strength of their women as much as the men in their society. To symbolize the cyclical nature of life and connection of all things, the branches of the tree rise, curve around and seem to rejoin the roots which, in turn, rise upwards to meet the branches.
Each pendant is one-of-kind and lovingly put together by CJ’s own hands. A reproduction of the image is applied to a black gesso-coated wooden mount, the back is signed, and the front coated with a high-gloss, durable epoxy resin.
