WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:  For ancient peoples the Winter Solstice was a sacred turning point that marked the shortest day of the year and the promise of the Sun returning. Once honoured with bonfires and rituals to celebrate the Return of the Light, some of the magic and meaning of that ancient festival can be recaptured in this lovely annual workshop. By decorating your own special candle in a meaningful way you can create your own miniature sacred fire to light on Solstice Eve.

You will be guided in setting intentions, prayers or wishes for the year ahead using  Runes (Norse tradition) or by writing out specific words in the ancient Celtic language of Ogham. You will then carve these symbols into your candle. As you carve, your intentions will be worked into the wax which then, every time the candle is lit, will radiate out into the world. Once carved, you can paint your symbols and further beautify your candle by adding embellishments such as feathers, beads and other special tokens.

This is an enjoyable and unique activity for this special time of year that just may create a new holiday ritual for yourself and your family.

Please note this workshop is not suitable for children under 12. All art materials supplied, including one candle.
