Manifest your intentions for the year ahead in an ancient symbolic language

LOCATION:  Studio #206 on the upper level of The Alton Mill Arts Centre

FEE:  There are two candle types to choose from as listed below. PLEASE ENSURE YOU PICK THE RIGHT OPTION ON CHECKOUT.

$135 + HST per person (includes a 3”x6” poured paraffin white pillar candle).

$155 + HST per person (includes a 100% pure 3”x6” natural beeswax candle). Beeswax candles are high quality, hand-poured, and have been purchased in support of a local bee farm. They have a rich golden colour and longer burn time. 

Welcome in the Winter Solstice in a magickal way!

For our ancestors, the Festival of Yule or the Winter Solstice was a sacred turning point that marked the shortest day of the year and the promise of the Sun’s return. Once honoured with bonfires and rituals to celebrate the Return of the Light, some of the magic and meaning of that ancient festival can be recaptured in this lovely annual holiday workshop where you can decorate your own special candle with specific symbols and special tokens to invoke positive energies for the new year ahead.

Starting with a short “divination reading” using Norse Runes, you will be guided in setting your intentions and how to encode them in an ancient symbolic language (either Runic symbols or the Celtic Ogham alphabet) which are then carved into your candle.

As you carve, your intentions will be worked into the wax. Your “words” can then be painted and other colourful embellishments like feathers, beads and charms added to further adorn your candle. Once completed, whenever your candle is lit at the Solstice, Christmas or New Year’s Day – or any day throughout the year – your intentions will radiate out into the world.

While making your special creation you can enjoy the magical atmosphere of my nature-filled studio and the quiet holiday ambience of the artfully decorated Alton Mill.

This is a lovely festive activity for reconnecting to a sacred time of year in a whole new way. As many have already discovered, it may just become a new holiday tradition – your own miniature sacred fire to light on Solstice Eve!

All are welcome although please note this workshop is not suitable for children under 12 due to the use of sharp carving tools.

This is an in-person workshop and each session is limited to 5 participants.

CANCELLATION POLICY. Please note that all workshops are non-refundable if you are a no-show, cancel or change your mind at the last minute. A raincheck for another workshop may be offered if there are extenuating circumstances that prevent you from attending but this will be solely at the discretion of the instructor. In the event a class needs to be cancelled due to weather or other unforeseen reasons it will be rescheduled or fully refunded.
