Creatively honour your “inner animal” using a fun and expressive dotting technique

TIME:  10:am to 1:30 pm (3.5 hours)
LOCATION:  In-person @ Studio #206 on the upper level of The Alton Mill Arts Centre
FEE:  $160 + HST per person

This unique workshop is an introduction to working with animal energies and a creative way to honour a particular animal whose energies you want to invoke in your life.

The concept of having a “spirit animal” originates with indigenous cultures yet historical evidence suggests humans all over the world have been engaging with the spiritual aspects of animals for a very long time. Our ancestors wisely understood the importance of being in right relationship with other creatures and had a deep respect for their alternative forms of wisdom.

Drawing on the idea that an animal can potentially be a life guide for us by possessing qualities and values we want to emulate, we will start by discussing:

  • Some foundational teachings about animal spirits – what they are and what they aren’t.
  • The indigenous sources of these concepts and how to respect honour them.
  • Different ways of determining which animals are currently manifesting in your life and why they are appearing at this time.

You will then use an intuitive “dot” painting technique to create a beautiful stylized or abstract rendition of your specific spirit animal on canvas. The approach we will be using is inspired by the aborigine designs of Australia as well as indigenous Native American art. Ultimately though, your image will be a unique expression of what this particular animal means to you. By creating this tangible take-away, you will be honouring your animal and encouraging it to continue guiding you with its wisdom.

No artistic skill is necessary to create this image as the intent is not a realistic depiction but rather to capture the essence of your animal’s spirit and message.

Participants will be asked prior to the workshop to choose an animal they wish to work with so that the appropriate images can be prepared beforehand. All materials will be supplied for you to complete a small dot painting of your spirit animal on a 6”x6” canvas.

Fee includes all materials. This is an in-person workshop limited to only 6 participants which means you get lots of one-on-one help.

Please Note: this workshop makes a great “girlfriends” or family activity and can be booked anytime (minimum 4 participants). Just put together your own group and email me to set up a day and time.
