Trees are often considered a symbol of our individual self and are a favourite subject to create images of. But when trees stand and work together as a forest, they are stronger. Science has actually proven that trees nurture and care for each other by way of their complex root systems.

By late fall many trees are completely bare but much beauty is still to be found in their skeletal trunks and branches and the knowledge that they will continue to support each other through the cold months ahead. This workshop is an opportunity to reveal the beauty and strength of your own November “forest” using acrylic paint, creative assemblage and collage.

We will start with a guided meditation or “walk in your inner forest” as well as some other creative prompts to help you envision the textures and unique forms of the trees within your forest. Then you will create a textured background with paint on canvas and layer up a forest of tree trunks using bits of torn paper of words, music, textured paper scraps and other interesting finds.

This workshop is suitable for complete art newbies as well as those with more experience. The goal here is not realism but to express the strength and interconnectedness of your “forest” and what that means to you.

All materials are supplied but if you have some inspirational collage items such as photos, stickers, old greeting cards, sheet music, etc., that have special significance to you or that you want to incorporate into your piece, please bring them long.

This is an in-person workshop limited to only 5 participants which means you get lots of one-on-one guidance.
