Marshes & Ponds Watercolour Workshop
August 15, 2020
The Alton Mill Arts Centre , Alton
DATE: Saturday August 15, 2020
TIME: 1 – 4:30 pm
COST: $90 + HST per person
LOCATION: Upper Floor of the Alton Mill Arts Centre
Spend a creative summer afternoon painting the beautifully tranquil pond at the Alton Mill.
In this workshop you will learn some simple watercolour techniques for painting water, trees, reflections and other classic “pond” elements such as bulrushes, grasses and water lilies.
Weather permitting, we will begin with some time outside photographing the millpond from different angles and learning what makes a good composition for a landscape painting. This will also be an opportunity to study the flora and fauna around the pond. You will need to bring a cell phone or camera although some pre-printed photo reference will be available.
Once back inside, you will work from your photographs to create a few small paintings of what you have just observed. CJ will demonstrate a variety of traditional watercolour techniques such as washes, wet-in-wet, glazing, dry brush and more, then guide you on how and when to use them.
Each student will leave the workshop with at least one small frame-worthy piece. This will be a fun and relaxing workshop, suitable for beginners and advanced students alike.
All materials will be supplied but for health and safety reasons you are encouraged to bring your own paints and brushes if you have them.
THIS WORKSHOP IS LIMITED TO ONLY 6 PARTICIPANTS
A NOTE about Covid precautions: Before coming for the workshop please check the following protocols on the Alton Mill website. These are in place to ensure your visit and the workshop is a safe experience for everyone involved. All workshop tables, chairs and art materials will be sanitized and physical distancing maintained by holding the workshop in the large Falls Gallery down the hall from CJ’s studio.
