Introduction to Watercolour & Simple Landscapes – A Learn & Play Workshop
October 1, 2022
The Alton Mill Arts Centre
DATE: Saturday, October 1, 2022
TIME: 1 to 4:30 pm (3.5 hours)
LOCATION: In-person @ Studio #206 on the upper level of The Alton Mill Arts Centre
FEE: $120 + HST per person
If you have always wanted to learn how to paint with watercolours this workshop is the ideal starting point. Or, if you are a little rusty or haven’t painted in a long time, you can enjoy revisiting the basics and indulging in the mindfulness approach we will be taking with this lovely expressive medium.
You will learn (or re-learn!) about different brushes, paints and papers, the colours you need to set up your palette right, a bit of colour-mixing and theory, plus a few of foundational watercolour techniques such as washes, glazing, wet-on-wet technique, scumbling and more.
After a bit of practice and play, we will then use these techniques to create some simple landscapes of hills and trees.
The beautiful colours of early fall, with their vibrant mixture of greens, oranges, reds and yellows, will be our inspiration. And, although we will be using some photo reference, we will be taking primarily an intuitive approach to interpreting what we see that will allow our inner self to reveal “undiscovered landscapes” – the colours, shapes and places of our interior world and moods.
If you are a complete newbie, all materials can be supplied as well as advice and on what you need to buy to set yourself up right.
If you have your own paints and brushes, you are encouraged to bring them along and find out what you need to supplement them with to round out your palette. Paper and stretching boards will be supplied.
This is an in-person workshop and limited to 5 participants. Masks may be requested to be worn if Covid protocols are put in place again or if a participant requires it.
