Join me for this unique workshop that combines an introduction to working with animal energies and a creative way of honouring a particular animal whose energies you want to invoke in your life at this time.
The terms “totem animal”, “power animal” or “spirit animal” are often used interchangeably to describe attributes or guidance from a non-human source. In essence, it is a way of relating to nature and higher consciousness through the symbolic form of an animal.
Although “spirit animals” are most commonly associated with indigenous cultures, historical evidence suggests humans in every region of the world have been engaging with the spiritual aspects of animals since shamanism, mythology and religion began. That’s because our ancestors understood the importance of being in right relationship with other creatures we share the earth with, our interconnectedness with them and the deep respect we should have for their alternative forms of wisdom.
Drawing on the idea that an animal can potentially be a life guide for us and possess qualities and values we want to emulate, this workshop will cover:
- Foundational teachings about animal spirits, what they are and what they aren’t
- Understanding and respecting the indigenous sources of these concepts
- How to read or interpret messages from nature and her creatures
- Ways of determining which animals are currently manifesting in your life and why they are appearing at this time.
After learning a simple breathing technique for shifting consciousness, you will take a guided journey to connect with an animal and see what teachings it has for you. Following this encounter and with a bit of gentle coaching, you will create your own symbolic version of your spirit animal and/or its message on a small canvas.
No artistic skill is necessary because the intent is not to accurately draw or recreate an animal but to symbolically capture the essence of its spirit and its message for you. This will be done through the use of collage items such as photos, torn paper, symbols (pawprints, claws, eyes, abstract patterns), stencils, markers, etc.
By creating this tangible take-away, you will be honouring your animal and encouraging it to continue guiding you. Throughout the workshop I will also be suggesting other ways to work with messages and guidance from nature that can assist you greatly in your everyday life.
Participants will be asked to bring a few images (photos from magazines or printed from online) of an animal that has particular meaning to them and that can be used in the collaging process.
This is an in-person workshop and limited to 5 participants. Please note that masks may be requested to be worn if Covid protocols are put in place again.
