Prayer or “Spirit” sticks can be found throughout different cultures and while they vary in both appearance and purpose, all have a powerful symbolic element.

The Navajo refer to their prayer sticks as “ke-tan” or “place where it is feathered” because feathers are attached as a way of petitioning bird spirits to carry prayers to the Creator. In yogic communities, prayer sticks can be a way to honor the spiritual journey and Siddha yogis write prayers onto wooden prayer sticks, then place them into a sacred fire as an offering.

A prayer or spirit stick can also provide protection for the place where it is “planted”, which means making one can not only have personal significance but also beautifies and protects the space around it.

In this workshop you can conjure helpful spirits to protect your garden all summer long or just enjoy the process of turning a simple stick into a work of art. You will be painting your very own 4 to 6 foot stick (bring your own or choose from a selection that have been pre-gathered from a local forest) with meaningful colours and symbols, then decorating it with various beads, crystals, tokens and charms, feathers, ribbon, yarn, or cloth. The photo above gives an idea of just some of the many creative ways this can be done.

All materials are supplied but feel free to bring any of your own small tokens to attach to your stick or set an intention with. Each stick will be smudged and blessed in a short ceremony upon completion. Your prayer stick can then be taken home and ‘planted’ in your garden to enjoy all summer long.

Join me in discovering this beautiful way to not only decorate your garden but set intentions that work with the height of Nature’s bountiful summer energies.

NOTE: Due to ongoing Covid concerns, this workshop is limited to 4 participants
