An afternoon of playing with Mother Nature through colour, paint and collage!

TIME:  1 to 4:30 pm (3.5 hours)
LOCATION:  Studio #206 on the upper level of The Alton Mill Arts Centre
FEE:  $150 + HST per person (includes materials)

Summer is when Mother Nature settles into a relaxed and pace and expresses herself at this lovely, dreamy time of year through a multitude of colourful blooms and other plant life basking in the warm sun. All the world, human and otherwise, slows down in order to simply enjoy being in the moment.

With acrylics as a starting point, in this workshop we will create textured backgrounds on canvas using real grasses, leaves and flowers as both our inspiration and as our “brushes”. Then we will layer up images of real and imagined floral landscapes, whether they be a meadow of wildflowers or a scene from a cultivated garden, using glazes and blobs of paint, metallic inks, collage items, textured paper scraps and other experimental materials. The goal here is not realism but to express the joyful warmth and mindfulness of summertime.

This workshop is suitable for beginners as well as those with more experience.

All materials are supplied but if you have some “floral” or inspirational collage items such as photos, stickers, old greeting cards, etc. that can be incorporated into your piece bring them long. You are also encouraged to bring real flowers and leaves to work from and share. The more variety and inspiration we have from Mother Nature, the better!

This is an in-person workshop limited to only 5 participants which means you will get lots of one-on-one guidance.

CANCELLATION POLICY. Please note that all workshops are non-refundable if you are a no-show or cancel. A raincheck to substitute another workshop may be offered if there are extenuating circumstances but this will be solely at the discretion of the instructor. In the event a class needs to be cancelled due to weather or for unforeseen reasons it will be rescheduled or fully refunded.
