This fun “try-it” workshop will introduce you to an easy technique for constructing the beautiful twisty knot patterns found in traditional Celtic art from Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
These complex, interwoven patterns are often seen on jewelry and “illuminated” manuscripts such as the famous Book of Kells. Celtic knots symbolize eternity or the never-ending life force because they form one continuous pattern with no beginning or end.
Starting with pencil and paper we will unravel some of the characteristic “under/over” weaving effect by learning a simple but effective way for drawing knot patterns. After a bit of practice, you will then be able to draw and paint your very own “knot”. We will be using watercolours, metallic inks and fine-line markers for this final work.
Each student will leave the workshop with a small frame-worthy piece. This is a fun and meditative process that doesn’t require any special art skills. What a delightful way to spend a spring afternoon!
If the scheduled date doesn’t work and you would like to arrange a small group of your own, grab a few friends and let’s book a date! Email me at email@example.com to inquire.
